About: 

'Public Transport Fundamentals" aims to provide fundamental knowledge on public transport as part of sustainable urban mobility by combining UITP's international knowledge with LTA's experience in delivering quality and sustainable public transport in Singapore. The course also provides opportunities for participants to take part in interactive discussions and to share their experiences.

Objectives:

  • Provide participants with fundamental knowledge on public transport and sustainable urban mobility
  • Explain why public transport is indispensable
  • Allow exchange of knowledge by tapping on UITP's international expertise 
  • Present basic definitions related to the organisations, administration and operation of public transport and illustrate them with examples
  • Increase awareness on main issues related to urban mobility
  • Provide a conductive platform for networking opportunities and interaction amongst participants

  • UITP’s international expertise, local practitioners’ knowledge and experiences from LTA, PT Operators and Academics

 

Speakers: 

Mr Paul Barter, Adjunct Associate Professor, LKY School of Public Policy, NUS

Paul Barter is a transport policy researcher, adviser, writer and trainer. He has expertise in various urban transport topics including: international comparisons of urban mobility patterns and policies; public transport regulation; innovation in travel demand management; and parking policy. His work has taken an interest in a very wide range of countries. Paul has also provided parking policy training and advice in China, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Saudi Arabia and Thailand. He taught transport policy, infrastructure policy, and urban policy as a faculty member at the National University of Singapore (NUS) from 2000 until mid-2012 and continues to teach transport policy as an Adjunct Associate Professor at NUS's LKY School of Public Policy. He writes and podcasts on transport policy and parking policy via www.reinventingtransport.org and www.reinventingparking.org.

 

 

Mr Christophe Karkan, Head of Business Development, UITP

Christophe Karkan holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Belgium’s biggest university Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL).Christophe Karkan held several Sales, Revenue Management, Marketing and Operations roles in the international hospitality sector (Marriott, Mövenpick, Hyatt), in several countries, before joining UITP at their Brussels headquarters to develop a commercial strategy destined to grow this association’s membership in a more sustained manner. Based at LTA-Academy’s Bedok Campus in Singapore since two years, Christophe Karkan is growing UITP’s network in the Asia-Pacific region as well as supervising the organization of UITP’s flagship Asia-Pacific event, the Singapore International Transport Congress and Exhibition, organized jointly with the Land Transport Authority of Singapore.

 

 

 

 

 

 Dr Andreas Rau, Principal Investigator TUMCREATE Singapore

Dr. Rau joined TUM CREATE Limited in Singapore since 2011 as a Principle Investigator in TUM CREATE Center of ElectroMobility. His significant research experience contributed in public transport planning, development and implementation workshops and research projects funded by public transport authorities, and education institutes in Germany and Singapore. With a strong academic and teaching background, Dr. Rau was a Founding Director of MSc programme at TU München and the German Institute of Science and Technology – TUM Asia, Singapore.
